Short bio:
Big Chick Energy (BCE) is an all-woman comedy troupe that infuses their bubbly personalities into high energy sketch and improv shows. These five Chicks from Toronto and Hamilton love creating comedy from a place of joy to offer their audiences an uplifting experience – but they don’t shy away from a good fart joke either! At a BCE show you can expect to see silly and satirical sketches through an effervescent feminist lens that clucks the status quo, ruffles a few feathers, and features an egg shaker or two.

Big Chick Energy Sketch defines friendship on stage at The 19th Annual Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival
TORONTO, ON, March 5, 2024 – Big Chick Energy Sketch is excited to return to the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival to debut their latest revue My Best Friend’s Sketch Show on March 8th and 13th. The all-woman comedy troupe, and last year’s recipient of TOSketchfest’s Producers’ Pick Award, is back with an ode to your chosen family, the real ones who have your back through breakups, breakdowns, and breakthroughs.
“The show is a friendship bracelet in the form of a sketch revue,” says Jo Anne Tacorda, one of the writer-performers that make up Big Chick Energy. “We explore the things we talk to our friends about — women’s health, burnout, representation, and demons. ”
The revue described as “light-hearted, downright silly, and occasionally musical” is part of The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival (TOsketchfest) running March 6 – 17, 2024 at The Theatre Centre and Comedy Bar Bloor in Toronto. Along with performances on March 8th and 13th, you can also catch Big Chick Energy kicking off the festival as part of the Opening Night Gala on March 6th.
Big Chick Energy, who first met at the Second City Training Centre, formed in late 2019 and had their first live show just weeks before the pandemic lockdown in 2020. BCE is the proud recipient of TOSketchfest’s 2023 Producers’ Pick Award, and recently produced a sold-out Halloween sketch comedy revue, ‘Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun’. BCE is always on the move, performing in a variety of notable sketch and improv shows (Beer Beer Comedy, Wide Variety, Staircase Comedy Cabaret) throughout Toronto and Hamilton. They are excited to make their east coast debut as part of Newfoundland and Labrador Sketchfest in April 2024 and delight audiences at the Hamilton Fringe Festival in July 2024.
